    Everything I've read about flat-towing XJ's is that you put the T-case in neutral and the transmission in park.

      i would think it would be better to put the trans in neutral as well that way it the tc dropped into a gear you would still be fine. what do you do about the steering? do you just turn the key to on so the steering unlocks?

        Transfer case goes in neutral and the transmission goes in park for an auto and in gear for a manual.

          Leave transmission in gear and put transfercase in nuetral ;)

            I'm not the best person to explain the mechanics behind it but from what I've been told it has something to do with how the transmission gets lubricated and if it's in neutral eventually the transmission "can" burn up because it isn't being lube while it's rolling.......
