  • on board welder

Does any one have an on board welder? If so, what kind? What type of welding can be done with it? An idea of price?

I called a couple of local shops that allegedly would have an on board welder that appeared in a magazine but they don't and one company doesn't have any welders.

I have onboard welders on me work trucks, but they are to big and heavy for a trail rig

what kind of welders did you check out?

    12-volt?

    jeep engine powered?

    small engine powered?

I haven't really felt a need for one, but if there is one that can do the job and is small enough I would be interested. :)

I am looking for one that will be powered by the Jeep engine. I hear the alternator needs to be upped(?) to 140 and that shops around town can do that easy.

I am not of knowledge for welding what I would need. I saw the article / picture about a welder for on-board and I've wanted one so I thought I'd call a few places.

My goal is to build the Jeep up so that wherever we go, we'll get back.

well I got rid of factory airbox, so now I have this big void to fill and a small welder would fit right in LOL..

I saw some on web, they need like a 140 amp or larger alternator, I didn't catch price tho.

Mike at 4x4land has one in his scrambler.
I have seen him use it.

If I read it right, those mobi-arc pieces look like they would end up being a pretty nice unit.

I hear some parts places can change over our present alternator to a 140 or so alternator.
