What to paint bumpers with

I fabricated some steel bumpers. What is the best do-it-yourself paint to use? Do I need to prime first?

roll on bed liner works pretty well, looks mean too

etching primer + spray paint. it will hold up well against trees & brush, and is easy to touch up when it comes in contact with rocks. nothing will hold up against rocks, so going with something that's easy to repair is your best bet if it's going to see the trails...

I've always used 2 coats of self-etching primer, than 2 - 3 coats of spray on bedliner for my bumpers. Makes it look decent, and it's an easy fix if you do scape it.

clean it with touluene (other good solvent)

and spray it with cold-galv. and then paint it what ever color you want after it dries

I used POR 15 and it looks great and has held up against trees and brush, and it's self etching so you don't need the primer...PLUS it's a rust inhibiter and I believe it even turns rust back into metal on some level.

I sanded mine down, used bumper paint and have had no problems yet.
