  • "Homemade" Air Intake for TJ

I ran across this the other day while surfing some different Jeep sites.

I have just completed this install on my TJ. Yes, it does work well. There's a noticable improvment in throttle response. Not yet sure of mileage or anything else yet. Will keep you posted.

Cool, thanks for the link. I was thinking of doing that myself, but hadn't gotten around to checking on what filter would be the right size.

    two thumbs up!

I definitely do not like the K&N filters. I've torn into too many throttle bodies and seen how dirty they are. The factory TJs airbox can flow more air than the I6/I4 can pull. To each their own though. Just a word of caution if you don't already know :)

An easier way to get the same result is to do this:

        1) Remove the front 'horn' from the air box (this is the only real restriction in the entire path on recent TJ's)
        2) (optional) get a K&N or True Flow high-flow filter to replace the stock one. This is optional because as mentioned before the stock filter is capable of flowing more than the engine ever needs, and with the removal of the horn you will see remarkable improvement in higher-rpm performance. But, if you want that extra edge and don't mind the lesser filtering, the newer filters area available.

Hello there. The link of that homemade air intake kit for TJ is already gone but I'm still kinda curious what it looks like because my uncle is planning to hook up a decent air intake for his TJ so that's what got me interested about it. Does anyone know a similar pic or link of that intake? Hoping you could share it because it might help my uncle decide what kind of air intake to get for his TJ. Thanks to anyone who could share.
