What style alternator? Got all the bolts out? I've not had one that I couldn't get apart by wacking a screwdriver wedged betwen the case halves or use a pair of pry-bars back-to back to wedge them apart... Just sit it on a block of wood before going to town on it...

Well its a 4.0 xj.All the bolts are out,pulleys off.Does the 4or6 screws that Look like they are screwed to the coils of wires have to come out.The ones that have tabs comeing out the back casing.

I'm assuming then that it's not the older style Delco 10SI/12Si alternator but the newer nippondenso?

If it's the nippondenso and if I remember right - there are 4 bolts around the perimiter that are holding the case halves together - one may be a stud with a nut under the metal shield. Those 4 need to be removed before the case halves can be split. To pry it apart you can put a piece of wood between the pair of 'ears' and then pry apart - it may be corroded but it should come apart with a 'pop'.
