would a cj7 hardtop fit on my 92' yj?

Yep. I run a YJ hardtop on my CJ7. The only issue is the tailgate. The YJ hardtop liftgate is designed to close first, then the body tailgate closes against it. On the CJ this procedure is reversed. The liftgate is designed to close against the tailgate and open first. On my CJ I had to move the tailgate latches to the outside so I could open tailgate first, then liftgate. Otherwise it works great.

According to an article in the latest JP magazine, TJ tops will interchange also with minimal upgrading. Surprised me.
