  • Driveshaft Press?

I replaced the collar on my front drive shaft, but looks like it needs to be pressed back together. Any recommendations or anyone near olathe that can offer a hand? I have a 6' Bessy pipe clamp that I tried, but can't hold the shaft in place while pressing it......giggity

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

I always just put them back together by hand . why would you need a press ?

course, ya have to line splines up , as it only slips on one way ! :)

    its a ballancing thing ! ;)

Ya, I thought it would be that simple too. The male end is a bit larger at end, so the shaft seal doesn't fit over that fatter section as well & trying to push it on while lining up the spline is a PITA. It MAY have been easier to slide the collar over the male end, then add the female end & press the collar on there, but would have been harder putting the collar on at that point.....In my defense, that does make sense in my head.

Either way, I now need to cram the fat shaft over the seal while lining up splines & once it gets past the fat end, it should be fine. It was more of a headache with my first run so wasn't sure if anyone had any experience with this or a nearby shop that can do this pretty easily for a few bucks. I'm in north east Olathe.

Check with SK automotive, Stomper off road or Inland Truck parts. Any of them can put that back together for you.

Yes. They're Bessey pipe clamps with 6' of iron pipe (sold separately). Why?
