I have the shifter off right now and was wondering if its ok to just fill it from the top. I've done it before in other vehicles just want to make sure its alright.

just open the side fill hole and fill until it starts to come out the fill hole

Would be a lot easier if I can just do it from the top.

That's what Jess meant. Fill through shifter cavity, but you need to remove the fill plug. You stop when it starts to come out of the fill plug. That's the fill mark....like an axle fill hole.
