  • 1997 XJ 4.0 loosing fuel pressure...

THIS IS NOT FOR MY XJ... that thing still runs... lol

my buddy's 1997 XJ 4.0 is doing something weird...

the fuel pressure is fine at first... then randomly it will drop to around 18psi and barely run... shortly after is recovers...

he has installed 2 new pumps and cleaned out the tank...

he has also hot wired the pump to the battery...

    and it still does it...

Has he tested either of the new pumps or changed his fuel filter? Changing pumps can break loose a lot of junk on the inside of your tank. While changing out pumps, has he noticed that his fuel trainer has been pretty funky? Also, sometimes, new electrical components are defective. It is my opinion and personal practice to test new electrical parts before installing them.

the 97+ I guess are entire assemblies not just pumps is what he is saying... you know pump, strainer, filter regulator all in one

he says he checked the tank and it is good and clean

but if there is one thing I have learned from my previous occupation as a Porsche Mechanic, it's that people don't have a clue what they are doing 98% pf the time... and that if it doesn't make sense it's because you are missing details

Is the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail? Check that
