how do I clear the codes on a 95 YJ

I have a YJ that has the old service engine light code system does anyone know roughly how long I have to disconnect the battery to clear those codes I've been told everything from 5 minutes to 24 hours ..

Drive it up to the auto parts store.


Ask to borrower their scanner, I usually give them my Id.


Then check your codes and clear them.

that won't work for this year and set up what you're supposed to do is turn the ignition key on 3 times the check engine light will blink out a code then you look that code up and it will tell you what's wrong but I'm trying to figure out how long do I have to disconnect the battery to reset the codes to 0

disconnect the battery and then turn your lights on to discharge the system of any remaining voltage. There should not be any but this is how I have done it for years. Then reconnect the battery, it should be good.

or do like me, and put a piece black electrical tape over Light !
